Taking It On The Road
Joel
Alpert was part of a business mission to Israel,
sponsored by the American Israel Chamber of
Commerce. Our group of business people from various
disciplines paused for a photo opportunity in front
of IBM's Global Technology Center, where some of the
world's most innovative technologies are being
conceived, developed, and marketed.

The First Rule Of A-I-D-A”
Marketing Formula Is “Attention”!
When Joel
Alpert was speaking before the Direct Marketing
Association’s National Professor’s Institute, the
group was dozing off towards the end of a long day
of lectures. Joel’s dramatic demonstration of the
difference between “General Advertising” shown
here...and the more targeted Direct Marketing
approach (grabbing the lapel and whispering to the
gentleman in the front row)...got their attention! |

"One of the biggest mysteries I

succeed..."
"The Path
Of Least Resistance For Managers" by Robert Fritz,
is breakthrough thinking, taking a Structural
Dynamics consulting approach and applying it to
business strategy. The result is strategic thinking
that goes beyond the babble...practical
action-oriented plans that really work, producing
sustainable success.
Our
PowerPlanning program uses Robert Fritz' method of

Just For Kicks
Consultants And
Hot Air
A man in a
hot air balloon realized he was lost. He lowered his
altitude and soon spotted a woman below. He
descended a bit lower and shouted, "Excuse me, can
you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an
hour ago, but I don't know where I am."
The woman
below replied, "You are in a hot air balloon
hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You
are between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and
between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude."
"You must
be an engineer," said the balloonist.
"I am,"
replied the woman. "How did you know?"
"Well,"
answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is
technically correct, but I have no idea what to make
of your information, and the fact is, I am still
lost. Frankly, you've not been much help."
The woman
below responded, "You must be in management."
"I am,"
replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?"
"Well,"
said the woman, "you don't know where you are
or where you are going. You have risen to where you
are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a
promise that you have no idea how to keep, and you
expect people beneath you to solve your problem. The
fact is, you are in exactly the same position you
were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my
fault.
George Carlin: "The Paradox of Our Time":
The
paradox of our time in history is that we have
taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider
freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend
more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy it
less. We have bigger houses and smaller families;
more conveniences, but less time; we have more
degrees, but less sense; more knowledge,
but less judgment; more experts, but more much,
spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too
fast, get too angry too quickly, stay up too late,
get up too tired, read too seldom, watch TV too
much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our
possessions, but reduced our values. We talk
too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life;
we've added years to life, not life to years.
